KASBAH was founded by a group of parents of children with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus in 1966 with a desire to help other families in circumstances similar to their own. All of the support services are now open to any person with a physical and/or learning disabilities, including support for the parents, carers and families.

The charity has grown over the years along with the services that we now offer. The Advisor Service offers a wealth of information, support and empowerment on all topics relating to disabilities. KASBAH offers a flexible and person centred service that strives to fit the needs of our member's lives. In 2010 KASBAH welcomed a new project; DIAL, this is a volunteer led service which provides generic advice on disabilities and maximizing benefits, this service is a fantastic addition to the KASBAH services.

In addition to the services that we provide specifically to our members, KASBAH has gained an excellent reputation as a specialist provider of independence training. KASBAH has two residential Kent sites, one in Swanscombe and the other in Rochester that offer support and training in all daily living skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, budgeting, travel training and problem solving. These services are available to any young vulnerable adult between the ages of 18-35 who have a physical and/or learning disability and have the potential to live independently with the correct support (We do have an admissions criteria available upon request).

These enablement services have continued to evolve and now include outreach services in North West Kent and Medway, and a young people’s (16+) daily life skills course in Medway (Short Breaks scheme). In 2011 a Thanet base is being established to provide a better service in East Kent.
